'If it smells like cane, tobacco, and tar, you are in Cali Ay mira ve!' As the Guayacanes song would say, just by listening to it, happiness and the desire to dance begin to spring forth, this is Cali, known as the Branch of Heaven, a factory of passionate salsa dancers who leave the name of this capital high all over the world.
Cali is the city of the soft evening breeze, which crosses the Farallones and the high mountains located a few meters from the Buenaventura Sea; its people with their marked accents are always with open arms to guide the tourist, their own, or to the stranger on some little street that he cannot locate. That is Cali, the land of pandebono, of empanadas with their special companion, chili to add spice and laughter to that gathering of friends or family that we Colombians like so much. Also known as the Sultana del Valle, Cali is the place for 'champus' a delicious drink made from lulo and shaved ice that gives freshness and flavor to the sunniest days that transcend listening and moving your hips and feet to the rhythm of melodies as famous as 'Cali Pachanguero' by the traditional Grupo Niche, which made this song an emblem of the city.
Cali converges with the architecture marked by the colonial era. It is one of the main cities of Colombia, the third most populated after Bogota and Medellin. When you arrive, you will find warm people, parks such as 'El Perro', 'La Retreta', 'El Avion' and 'Los Poetas'; public spaces full of vegetation; seven rivers that bathe it, museums, churches, and a warm climate that invites you to stay in the Branch of the Heaven.
You must walk Cali at night along the Cali River boulevard between the Ortiz Bridge and Sexta Avenue to discover its architecture. Twilight is ideal for visiting the Granada neighborhood, a modern pink zone. There is a finding with typical, national, and international gastronomy. Continuing with the boutiques that show fashion trends, and finally, with the salsa discos, open every day at different times for various audiences.
By Air:
The Alfonso Bonilla Aragon International Airport connects Cali with all cities in Colombia and some international destinations with non-stop flights.
By Land:
Cali has a Terminal of Buses used by thousands of travelers to leave and arrive to and from all the cities and municipalities of Colombia.
In Cali, streets are called 'calles' and 'carreras'. 'Calles' increase from north to south and 'carreras' from west to east. As points of reference, the Cristo Rey statue is located west of the city, the Ciudad Jardin neighborhood, and Cayzedo Square to the south
Public Transportation: To transport in Cali, you can use the public transportation system called MIO, which has articulated buses that travel through different areas of the city at very favorable prices. The MIO has an exclusive lane for its buses, which allows for greater speed and safety in travel. To use the MIO, you need a card to recharge at stations or authorized points.
The cities of Colombia, as well as their climates and landscapes, are very varied, and in terms of gastronomy, each place is a world to discover, and Cali is no exception, this warm city offers a unique and traditional gastronomy, prepared and created with ingredients mostly native to the region. It is worth discovering its flavors, textures, and smells.
The valluna chop, a main dish that consists of breaded and fried pork, but with a special breading in spices, accompanied by rice, salad, and fried smashed plantain, is known in some places as chapeta. The marranitas, the aborrajados, the gelatine de pata, the arepa valluna and the manjar blanco are the sweet delights to taste.
There are three special drinks. 1. The 'champus', is based on corn, lulo, pineapple, and cinnamon. 2. The lulada is a soft drink based on lulo and sugar. 3. The cholado, a fruit snack with shaved ice and sweet sauces. If you pass through the municipality of Vijes, ask for the rice with sausage and the empanadas of Cambray, a special recipe for a sweet empanada made with cassava flour dough and sandwich filling.
The Cali Festival is the largest annual festival in the city and is celebrated in December. An atmosphere full of joy, music, lights, color, and gastronomy around Salsa. Every year the city celebrates more events such as:

Please keep in mind the following tips before traveling to Cali. The city has type A or B plugs, so ensure to carry a type A adapter if you have a type B or European type C plug; in some places only Type A plugs are available. The voltage in the city is 110V AC and the grid is stable all the time.
Most businesses in the city accept credit cards, so we recommend carrying at least $100,000 in cash per person and day, especially if you plan to visit rural places or distant towns. Colombian Pesos come in $1,000, $2,000, $5,000, $10,000, $20,000, $50,000, and $100,000 bills.
The tap water in Cali is 100% drinkable, but we don't recommend drinking tap water in nearby municipalities and towns. So, it's better to drink bottled water or bottled drinks. On most tours, we'll provide you with a hydration kit, which includes environmentally friendly bottles or containers.
The climate in the city is usually cool to hot. So, casual clothing is enough, and we recommend wearing sunglasses, a hat, or a cap to protect yourself from the sun. Our guides will guide you with the appropriate clothing to visit the destinations from the day before.
