The Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia, and Santa Catalina is a tourist destination of great importance in the Colombian Caribbean. Its impressive natural landscapes, bathed by a sea of seven colors, are a breathtaking spectacle for visitors. Additionally, the local population has unique cultural expressions, such as Creole, their native language, the calypso rhythm, and the Baptist religion, which most people practice.
Over the past decades, tourism in San Andres has experienced continuous growth, attracting travelers from all over the world in search of unique experiences. One of the most popular activities is water sports, such as diving and snorkeling, due to the incredible marine biodiversity of the region.
In 2001, UNESCO recognized the importance of this archipelago by declaring it a World Biosphere Reserve Seaflower to protect its valuable landscapes and the richness of its ecosystems. From the mangrove forests to the white sand beaches, passing through the impressive coral formation on the island of Providencia, this place is a true natural paradise.
By Air:
The Gustavo Rojas Pinilla Airport connects San Andres with all the cities of Colombia, this being the only method of reaching the archipelago.
The main road in the city is Circunvalar Avenue, which surrounds the entire island. The commercial area and the airport are located to the north, while to the west you will find the West View Ecopark, and to the east, the San Luis sector.
Public Transportation: Although there are taxis, one of the alternatives for transportation in San Andres is to rent golf cars, ATVs, or UTVs. The requirements for renting are: being of legal age and having a driving license. Remember that this type of transportation cannot be used after 6 pm in rural areas.
The gastronomy of the Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia, and Santa Catalina is a fusion of Afro-English cultures reflected in its dishes. Local ingredients such as fish, crab, snail, prawns, and turtles are mixed with coconut, banana, and breadfruit to create delicious typical dishes. Some of them are:
The Rondon: It's a type of stew prepared outdoors with fish, pigtail, snail, banana, yucca, and coconut milk.
Crab soup: The black crab with potato, yam, cassava, basil, and coconut milk.
Crab meat in minced meat (crabbacks): The crab shell is a base for the filling made with its meat. Grilled lobster, crab empanadas, and conch fritters are also notable.
The Green Moon Festival is the most representative event of San Andres, it highlights Caribbean traditions and culture. In San Andres, more events are celebrated every year such as:

Please keep in mind the following tips before traveling to San Andres. The island has type A or B plugs, so ensure to carry a type A adapter if you have a type B or European type C plug; in some places only Type A plugs are available. The voltage in the island is 110V AC and the grid is stable all the time.
Most businesses in the city accept credit cards, so we recommend carrying at least $200,000 in cash per person and day, especially if you plan to visit some places far from the downtown. Colombian Pesos come in $1,000, $2,000, $5,000, $10,000, $20,000, $50,000, and $100,000 bills.
The tap water in San Andres is NOT 100% drinkable. So, it's better to drink bottled water or bottled drinks. On most tours, we'll provide you with a hydration kit, which includes environmentally friendly bottles or containers.
For this destination, we recommend wearing sunglasses, a hat, or a cap to protect you from the sun, sunscreen, and fresh beach clothing to cover you from the sun. This is a beach destination and the climate is hot. Our guides will guide you with the appropriate clothing to visit the destinations from the day before.
